Our Competitive team swims year round September - July. A tryout is required before registration. Please contacting the appropriate Coach below for more information about their group.


Developmental Stroke School

Our Stroke School is devoted to competitive stroke instruction with an emphasis on balance in the water through specialized drills. The program is for swimmer under 14 looking for a supplement for summer league.

Stephen Clendenin

Head Coach - Dulles South

Stephen Clendenin is in his third season with NCAP. He has been a competitive swimmer since he was 9 years old and has been swimming in Northern VA since 2001. He graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2011 with a degree in English. During his college career, he was awarded the Capital Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year for three consecutive years and he was Rookie of the Year his freshman year. He went undefeated in all his individual conference races, went to the NCAA Division III Championships all four years of college and is a six-time All-American athlete. After graduating college, he coached at Saint Vincent College in western PA for two years, helping that team to two winning seasons. Stephen returned to coaching and swimming PVS in 2013 and competed in eight different National-level meets, including Summer and Winter Nationals and the Arena Pro Swim Series. In 2015, he won the high point award at the Eastern Sectional Meet. He is an ASCA Level 2 coach and has coached summer league for 12 years. Stephen is passionate about swimming; his goal as a coach is always to share that passion and to help his athletes find their own love of the sport. He loves coaching and has a lifelong commitment to be the best coach he can be. Besides coaching, Stephen loves spending time with his wife and kids.

Jay Wareham

Jay Wareham will begin his fifth season coaching with NCAP and his thirteenth season coaching competitive swimming. Coach Jay comes to Dulles South after four years at the clubs’ Tysons Corner site. He brings with him experience working with all types of

athletes from the elite club swimmer to the high school swimmer and on down to the learn-to-swim summer leaguer. Along with his coaching duties at NCAP, he serves as the head coach of the Great Falls Rapids in the NVSL and as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Loudoun County High School. Coach Jay is an ASCA Level 2 certified coach who’s core coaching philosophy centers around pursuing personal excellence in and out of the water. Coach Jay is a graduate of Penn State Altoona where he was a four-year letterman in swimming, a team captain, and the program’s first All-American. He resides in Ashburn, VA, and is finishing up his Master of Education in School Counseling at George Mason University. Outside of the pool and school, Coach Jay enjoys playing golf, attending sporting events, cheering on the Nittany Lions, and spending quality time with friends and family. Coach Jay will lead Bronze 1-B and Silver 2 while also assisting in a few of the other age group programming.

Isaiah Jones

Isaiah grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. He started his swim career at Westside High School where he achieved the 100 freestyle school record and earned him a spot in the State Championship during his senior year. Isaiah also swam at Bolles High School alongside Caleb Dressel, Ryan Murphy, and Joseph Schooling. He was recruited to swim at Marymount University, and while there set the 100 freestyle school record. Isaiah has been involved in coaching summer leagues in Florida and continues doing private lessons at Marymount University. He has coached athletes of different ages and enjoys engaging with them in a fun and positive way.

Adam Stonerook

Adam Stonerook will begin his second coaching season coaching with NCAP and his 12th year coaching competitive swimming. Coach Adam has been the assistant coach at Tuscarora High School for three years, as well as the head coach of the Exeter Eagles in ODSL for the past four. Coach Adam is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where he competed at the club level for 5 years while earning a BA and a Master’s in Education. Coach Adam currently lives in Leesburg, VA, and spends his free time coding. Coach Adam likes to have fun on deck, and at the end of the day, make sure the swimmers are enjoying the workouts as well. 

Cori Ritchey

Age Group Coach

Cori Ritchey is a graduate of Penn State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. She has been a swimmer since she was 4 years old, starting her swimming career in the NVSL. She then swam for NCAP starting at age 9, all the way through graduation from high school. Cori has been coaching from a young age, through NCAP stroke school, and in the NVSL. She also works as a fitness instructor for F45 Training in Tysons Corner. She is a Certified Personal Trainer and Youth Fitness Instructor, so come to her for all of your personal training needs. She is incredibly excited to be coaching with NCAP and being part of the team!
